For as long as I’ve been able to digest a eggnog mixture, I’ve loved it. Even now, with having to be conscious of drinking milk products, I still love the taste of eggnog recipes, with and without spirits. The mixture of egg yolks, carnation milk (not regular milk – that sounds wrong) sugar, and spices just screams joy and holiday parties. Coquito, the infamous Puerto Rican version of the holiday drink, was the only version that I thought was out there for so long well besides the Turkey Hill brand found in the grocery stores. With some conversation and exposure to other cultures, come to find out, that there are other cultures that also create eggnog recipes to celebrate their holidays as well.

Traditional Puerto Rican holiday drink, meaning little coconut in Spanish. The ingredients found in this eggnog recipe must be, coconut milk, coconut cream, Puerto Rican rum, and sweetened condensed milk. If you know an abuela, who prepares a pernil, rice and beans, for the holiday dinner, she’s probably the one to make you some coquito eggnog or will direct the next family member in the line to make the eggnog recipe.
Crémas (Crémasse) –
Crémas, is a sweet and creamy alcoholic beverage native to Haiti. Crémas is made primarily from creamed coconut, sweetened condensed evaporated milk, and rum.
COLA DE MONO –
Chile holiday drink translated as “Monkey’s Tail.” This milk-based punch is made with sugar, spices, coffee, and spiked with a hearty dose of aguardiente (a distilled grape spirit, putting it in the category of brandy).
A Turkish drink mix of milk, sugar and sahlep flour (ground orchid bulbs), fragranced with rosewater, cinnamon and a dusting of pistachios. I’m not sure I’d be quick to try this “eggnog recipe” but if I ever visit Turkey, I may try it out for the culture.

Auld Man’s Milk –
If you are a fan of whiskey, this Scottish drink may be just right with for your holiday parties. This is a recipe that must provide a strong kick because it only calls for .5 cup of sugar, no additional sweetner is added. Mixed with eggs, half and half and spices, I’d sip this one very slowly.
