How Women Changed the Face of Business Forever

Women of the past…

Only a few decades ago, the business arena was dominated by men. Change, as it always is, was inevitable. Daring to oppose the male dominated world of business, women entrepreneurs stepped forward and offered some serious competition. Effectively cornering markets that men did not focus, women entrepreneurs managed to beat men in unfamiliar and unexplored territories.

From this, men learned that underestimating women was a very bad idea indeed. Good thing they learned quickly about the value of fair treatment of the opposite sex, even thought it is still an ongoing issue to certain companies and certain countries. Had they tried to ignore the growing number of women entrepreneurs, men would have found themselves facing downfall. In true business fashion, men gave way to a compromise. Jacks gave way to Janes, and more women were brought in to different businesses, again, unexplored territories for the male entrepreneurs.

Throughout the years, we have observed how women are capable accomplishing great things. There are moments in history, where women have outperformed men in business. ‘I have never worked a day in my life without selling. If I believe in something, I sell it, and I sell it hard‘; this bold statement does not come from a male tycoon, but from Estee Lauder herself. One of the women that re-defined the beauty industry, one of the women who built a Beauty empire based in another bold statement “There are no homely women, only careless women”…with just four products. It was just about the time Ayn Rand, a Russian-born American philosopher, novelist, playwright and screenwriter was whispering…’The question isn’t who is going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me’.

Women of today into the future…

Nowadays, no one can judge by gender, just by accomplishments, and sadly, not by what is attempted, but by what is achieved. Of course, there is the question of equality. People have been asking, what does equality really mean? Things get more complicated, since equality is ever so often confused and misinterpreted with parity.

Under today’s laws, one can not base a business decision on a person’s sex; period. Very few people narrow-minded and foolish would ever look down upon a woman, and these individuals often end up facing a lawsuit let alone public humiliation via the social networks.

Women entrepreneurs changed the world by showing men how they  can comprehend and bring into life certain things much better than men.  XX chromosomes or XY chromosomes, are now officially equal under law.
