Are you familiar with the different phases of locs? Well, I’m here to tell you that the awkward stage is the one that teaches you patience. As one who has grown out short natural hairstyles a few times over the years, the awkward phase of growing out your hair, whether loose or locked, is a phase you will love to hate.
As baby locs begin to mature, it is also known as the ugly or awkward phase. Your locs do not look or behave the way you want them. My short mini locs are significantly in the awkward stage. In my loose natural hairstyle time, when my short hair would begin to grow out, it took some time before my short afro would look cute, and there are tools I would use to disguise the awkward time.
When your hair starts to look how you want it to look, that’s when you’re out of the awkward phase! https://t.co/FODKPWPDbG

Here are some tools that I used to help to get through the awkward phase that I have not used with my mini locs:
- Hair extensions or installing Faux Locs to cover the awkward phase of locs

- Wigs to cover the awkward phase of growing locs

- Hair wraps to cover the awkward phase of growing locs
Although these are great options to cover up the awkward phase of growing out of locs, I’m also learning about patience. Sticking with the natural way of life, I’ll be working through this awkward phase without adding hair or wigs to mask my growth. I think buying a few colorful scarves will assist with creating a cute style while staying on the natural path.

My daughter is currently going through her awkward phase and she loves it! I am letting her embrace it for now, but she loves her fuzzy budding locs!
